Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia & purpurea)

Part Used:  Rhizome and whole of the plant

Effective Forms:  Tea & Tincture, Encapsulation

Echinacea has been recognized as one of the best alteratives for detoxifying the blood.  It is the prime remedy to help the body rid itself of microbial infections.  It is effective against both bacterial and viral attacks.  It works on the lymphatic system and building the immune system.

Echinacea Leaf (Echinacea purpurea)In conjunction with other herbs it may be used for any infection anywhere in the body.  For example, in combination with Yarrow or Bearberry it will effectively stop cystitis.  It is especially useful for infections of the upper respiratory tract such as bronchitis, tonsillitis and for catarrhar conditions of the the nose and sinus

Extensive scientific research has been undertaken on the plant in the last 20 years.  The results have indicated antibiotic activity, cortisone-like activity, assistance in synovial membrane healing, supporting of collagen through hyaluronic acid protection, promotion of wound healing, stimulation of T-cell lymphocytes and tumour suppression.  In general it may be used widely and safely.

Health Benefits of Echinacea

Echinacea is an herb that's becoming incredible popular across North America. It*s not a new herb or a new idea to use it as a medicine, however*in fact, the Native Americans used Echinacea for hundreds of years before Europeans arrived on the shores and it*s just as effective as a health product now. Traditionally, Echinacea was used to help cure a flu or a cold, but it is now known to have a lot of other health benefits. Take a look at these top 10 benefits of this legendary herb and see if it can help you with your current lifestyle and health goals.

1. It prevents general sickness
This is something we've known about since we knew that Echinacea existed. As mentioned, the Native Americans relied on Echinacea for a long time as it helped them recover from colds and prevent further sickness. But, how exactly does this simple plant extract do it? It's all down to T-cells in the body which are produced in larger numbers when you consume Echinacea. Your white blood cells will also get a boost helping them fight off any invading viruses or bacteria.

2. It prevents infections on the skin
If you have cut your skin, Echinacea can be used to prevent infection. When your skin is wounded and your flesh is exposed, bacteria can easily get inside your body and start multiplying owing to the warmth and hydration that your inner body provides; Echinacea puts a stop to this. It can be used on open wounds without causing irritation to the skin and it effectively kills off bacteria that try to multiply and grow in your body. As well as stopping infection, when you apply Echinacea to the skin, it helps speed up the process of healing as well.

3. It helps fight cancer
The more natural herbs and extracts you read about, the more surprised you'll be at how many can help prevent cancer. Echinacea is yet another natural aid for preventing cancer. Research has shown that Echinacea is particularly good at helping avoid the development of brain cancer owing to the phytochemicals found within the substance. Many people claim that Echinacea can be used as an alternative to regular cancer therapy, too, though it is better to consider it an extra treatment. Echinacea can be used alongside traditional cancer treatments for an effective treatment of cancer.

4. It improves your immune system
This benefit comes hand-in-hand with Echinacea's ability to prevent colds and reduce how long symptoms of a cold or illness affect you. Studies have shown time and time again that Echinacea can reduce the chance of catching a cold by almost 60% which is a result of the herb's ability to boost your body's immune system. This means that Echinacea helps your body protect itself better from invading bodies such as viruses and bacteria.

5. It can help give you better skin
Suffer from eczema or psoriasis? You'll know how difficult it can be keeping your skin looking good, despite how well you might eat. Echinacea can help, though. When you apply Echinacea to a breakout of either of these skin conditions, you'll find that it helps reduce inflammation, swelling, redness, and the flakiness that comes with it all. Echinacea won't cure your condition, but by keeping it handy you can help reduce the appearance of a bad skin breakout whenever it happens.

6. Avoid recurring infections

As well as being a general disinfectant and anti-bacterial substance, Echinacea can actually help reduce the chance of an infection recurring. If you suffer from regular ear infections, for instance, applying Echinacea for around a month will get rid of the infection and help your immune system understand the infection better thus giving your body the help it needs to stop the infection from happening again.

7. Helps reduce pain

Echinacea is a great pain killer and it*s known to help reduce the pain of a lot of skin conditions as well as tonsillitis and toothaches. Specifically, those who suffer from measles, herpes, or gonorrhea can use Echinacea to reduce the pain that these conditions cause the skin. The natural extract can also help reduce headaches, gut pain, and even make a snake bite more bearable.

8. It's great for your mental health
Just like so many natural supplements, Echinacea is great for your mental health.  We now understand that Echinacea can be effective in helping people who have phobias, anxiety, depressions, and even ADHD which is a condition that causes an individual to be hyperactive. To see results, be sure to take small amounts of the extract each day, around 20mg or so should do the trick. You can consume it in any way you like; tea is one of the most common forms at the moment.

Echinacea Tincture Title
What you need:

  1. Wide mouth canning jar (make sure it is clean and sanitized) dried Echinacea
  2. Vodka (with at least 40% alcohol * 80 proof)
  3. Note: if using fresh herbs, you will need a higher percentage of alcohol (95%)

Method:
  1. Place dried Echinacea in the jar until the jar is about half full.
  2. Pour vodka over the top. Fill to the shoulder of the jar so there is a little room at the top. The dried herbs will swell over the coming weeks.
  3. Seal tightly with lid.
  4. Label jar with the date and the expected date your tincture will be ready. Also, include the ingredients on your label. You probably think you will remember, but trust me, that doesn*t always happen!
  5. You have now created a menstruum. Leave menstruum at room temperature for four to six weeks.
  6. Shake every few days.
  7. After the four to six weeks has passed, strain the herbs out of the vodka.
  8. To strain the herbs:
  9. Place a layer of cheesecloth over a mesh strainer and set over a large measuring cup or bowl. Pour menstruum slowly into the cheesecloth and allow to drain for a few minutes. Then use your hands to wrap the cheesecloth around the herbs and squeeze out the excess liquid.
  10. Discard the herbs.
  11. You now have Echinacea tincture! Woo hoo! (Isn*t this fun?)
  12. Pour tincture into dark, glass bottles for storage. Don*t forget to label them.
To use:

At the first sign of a cold or throughout a cold take
" 1/2-3/4 " of a teaspoon 3 to 4 times a day. per day.

Important note About when to use echinacea:

Echinacea has shown to be most beneficial at the beginning and for the duration of a cold. It is not intended as a long-term preventative.
Please remember I am not a certified Herbalist, just someone who is crazy about herbs and natural living. It is important you do your own research.

Remaining positive is a kind of a proportion that usually focuses on positive results.
In order to start thinking positively, people need to be able to anticipate if they are happy, healthy or successful.
Being an optimist does not mean that negativity is being ignored, it means that the person has chosen to recognize the existence of negativity but he decides to focus on the positive instead.
Long story short * to be positive is to have faith, so read the following and please retain your positivity.

1. Stay in touch with nature:  It will lower your levels of stress, it will improve your memory and make you feel a tad younger.

2. Be nice:
Remove yourself and your problems from the center of attention; everyone has problems to deal with.   If you help others you will be happier and realize that no matter how hard it is for you at the moment, it is harder for someone else.

3. Be graceful:
Appreciate the positive vibe around you, this will help you in raising your spirit and boosting your mental abilities.

4. Take some mental downtime:  If you're feeling mentally tired or devoid of strength, take some mental downtime, it is crucial for your positive perspectives.

5. Always laugh (if possible and appropriate)   A good laugh will strengthen your immune system, improve your mood, lower your pain and protect you from stress. You can watch a funny movie or series.

6. Mingle with positive people:  Researchers have discovered that stress is transmissible, but so are positivity and negativity.

Try and spend more time with positive people, this will be of great benefit to you.

7. Always look on the bright side:  Put differently, always look for a silver lining, and be ready to find the positive among the negative in any situation.   In order to start thinking positively, people need to be able to anticipate if they are happy, healthy or successful.

8. Inhale (deeply)
You might not think it effective, but taking deep relaxing breaths calms people and enables them to focus easily.

Start some breathing exercises and get rid of the toxic air piling up in your body.   The new fresh air will clear your thoughts and help you improve your cognitive abilities.
9. Get rid of negative thoughts  Face the thing that*s happened, even though it's negative.  Think of the most positive thing you can do, get rid of the negativity, and move on.   If you don't do it, negativity will just pile up and will explode later on with worse consequences for you

10. Have a conversation with yourself (in a positive manner)  Try and tell yourself: Things will work out well. Try and say those words aloud.
This will make the message more intense, and you will have more chances of succeeding.

11. Call your good friend and talk to them   This will help you in hearing out your problems, and will also give you a different perspective. It's therapy done for free.

12. Go out for a walk
Researchers have discovered that walks raise the spirits of people.  Having a walk will also make you feel calmer and more relaxed because of your nerve cells will spark in your brain.

13. Remember to exercise  Exercising will improve your physical figure and your mental figure too. According to studies, working out helps in decreasing anxiety and improving your mood.  The brain chemicals released during exercise ease the negative feelings and help in relaxing.

14. Have some good sleep:  Scientists have proved that lack of sleep has an immense impact on mental health.
Scientists from the Pennsylvania University, have shown that people who are likely to sleep less than five hours a night for a period longer than a week tend to feel more anxious, depressed and tired.

15. Keeping a journal would be fine:  The journal will help you inventing and releasing your negative feelings.

Recommended: Follow These Simple Steps to Overcome any Regret, Disappointment or Mistake
It can also provide help if you want to find the core of the problem that's been bothering you.

  1. Take some days off at work: Even though you are not feeling physically ill.
  2. Relax and indulge yourself occasionally:  It's good to have your batteries recharged occasionally, indulge in whatever you want as long as you are out of danger.
  3.  There's no time like the present: Focusing on the future or on things that have passed will prevent you from living in the present and impede your progress.
  4. If you dedicate yourself to thinking positively at present you will reap the fruits in future too.
  5. Don't neglect your spirituality:  You can be healthy, eat well, sleep well or exercise regularly, but your body and soul will not be a balance if you don't have spiritual food.
  6. Try and meditate, say a prayer or read something spiritual, you need to enhance your spirituality.
  7. Rejoice in every new victory:  This will improve your positivity at once. You don't need to throw a party to celebrate a victory.
  8. It would be enough, just admit it, tell yourself that you've been good and be happy about it.
