herb for july-skullcap
July Herb of the Month
Also known as- Scutellaria lateriflora, Scutellaria, Scullcap, Scute, Blue Skullcap, Mad-Dog Skullcap, and Madweed.

Skullcap is an herbaceous perennial mint with ridged leaves and tiny blue flowers, growing 1 to 4 feet (25 cm to 1 m) high. Various species of skullcap are important in Traditional Chinese Medicine as herbs that clear heat and dry dampness. The use of herb dates back at least two thousand years.
Traditional Chinese medicine teaches that skullcap is most useful for "draining fire" from the "upper burner," for patterns of symptoms including high fever, irritability, thick mucus, or hot sores and swelling. The herb is used to "dry dampness" from the stomach or intestines, treating any kind of digestive upset that stifling the urge to drink fluids or causes inflammation of the urinary tract. Skullcap also treats the symptoms of emotional excess "rising" in the body to cause blushing, flushing, irritability, or headache.

Baicalein, baicalin, wogonin, wogonoside, neobaicalein, roxylin aglucurenoide, camphesterol, beta-sitosterol, and benzoic acid.

Parts Used
The above-ground parts of the plant, dried.

Typical Preparations
Traditionally used as a tea or tincture; can be used in capsule form. The tea should be drunk hot. Combined with heal-all (prunella) for treating nervous conditions, peony for treating tension in the abdomen during infection. Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that skullcap should be "fried" (browned in a pan without oil) for use in stopping bleeding.

Over 100 scientific studies confirm skullcap's:

  •  Antibacterial effect. The species of skullcap inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, among others. Skullcap may be useful when there is antibiotic resistance.
  • Bleary effect. Tinctures (but not teas) increase flow of bile and lower cholesterol.
  • Gastrointestinal effects. Teas and tinctures slow intestinal movement.
  • * Hypotensive effect. Teas, tincture, and alcohol extracts are known lower blood pressure in dogs, cats, rabbits, and humans. The herb lowers blood pressure by dilating blood vessels, potentially lowering risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • Immunomodulatory effect. Skullcap contains compounds that inhibit the release of enzymes by mast cells, effectively acting as an antihistamine.
  • Temperature regulatory effects. As far back 1935, scientists have confirmed that skullcap can lower fevers.

Skullcap Benefits

Skullcap is a natural herb that acts on your nervous system in a positive way.
It can be used to greatly reduce your anxiety levels and help you get a good nights sleep. This herb has been used for thousands of years because of it's effectiveness for treating many ailments.

Other Common Names: Blue, greater, hairy, hooded, American, European western, maddog and side-flowering skullcap.

It is also called scullcap, helmet flower, blue pimpernel, quaker bonnet, hooded willow flower, mad-dog weed, mad weed, hoodwort and hoodwart.
Skullcap is most often used as a sleep aid and as a mild sedative. It has similar properties as valerian root.

Skullcap is a widely used herb used for calming down people who are nervous. It*s used as a natural tranquilizer. It has the ability to relax the nervous system. It*s a great remedy for stress and anxiety.

It eases muscle spasms, muscle twitching and may help in ailments that involve involuntary limb movement, such as Parkinson*s disease and epilepsy. Skullcap is also helpful in reducing tension and can be used to induce sleep. Skullcap is also believed to lower blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol.

This herb exhibits an anti-inflammatory effect and may be useful for joint pain and arthritis.

Skullcap also has been shown to improve the blood flow to the brain and may make it a useful treatment for ADHD. Increasing oxygen(via blood flow) to the brain may help prevent strokes as well.

This herb is very useful for treating withdrawal from drugs and alcohol. It is also helpful for those trying to quit smoking, as it can help you relax.
Skullcap may also be helpful to male bodybuilders due to it's chrysin content. Chrysin may keep the mail hormone androgen from being converted to estrogen. This can help increase muscle size and strength.
Studies showed that American skullcap has antioxidant properties that may help protect against Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, anxiety and depression.

These antioxidant capabilities were also linked to increased antioxidant activity in the liver, considered to be one of the slowest-recovering organs. The herb boosts the liver's efficiency, helping with reduction of toxin levels in the body and blood, and consequently enhancing well-being.

Furthermore, other properties discovered in American skullcap include:

  • Sedative: American skullcap is a known nervine, and it has potential as treatment for epilepsy, hysteria, panic attacks, anxiety and delirium tremens. Meanwhile, people with sleep problems can use American skullcap since it's able to help induce sleep naturally, without the negative effects of prescription drugs and over-the-counter (OTC) sleep aids
  • Antispasmodic: The herb can help minimize throat infections, headaches from stress, neuralgia and after-effects of incessant coughing. American skullcap can also be useful when treating withdrawal symptoms from tranquilizers and barbiturates, and may even benefit people with anorexia nervosa, fibromyalgia and mild Tourette's syndrome
  • People with nervous disorders who experienced seizures or other spasmodic side effects that occurred from a problem in the nervous system may also utilize American skullcap.
  • Analgesic: This herb can help with pain relief all throughout the body, as it can reduce inflammation and deliver a major boost in wound healing and injury recovery

How to make tinctures

  1. Well, you will need a 1/2 pint jar, 1/2 cup of dried skullcap leaves, and 100 proof vodka to fill your jar. Do start with a small jar, since you don*t yet know how effective this tincture will be for you. Start with a small amount and experiment with it. If it works well, you can make a larger amount the next time.
  2. Fill the jar 1/2 way with dried skullcap leaves. Pour 100 proof vodka over the leaves until the jar is full. Stir and cap your tincture in progress. Label the jar "Skullcap" (Scutellaria lateriflora) tincture, with the date 6 weeks from now to decant it. Or just put today's date, and that will help remind you when to decant. Open and stir your skullcap tincture every day for the first week. Allow the skullcap tincture to sit and infuse for 5 more weeks. Shaking the jar or stirring it every few days is a great idea. Keep the tincture out on the counter so you'll be reminded to do so. However, make sure it is kept out of direct sunlight. Then* Strain the skullcap tincture into cheesecloth that is set into a strainer. Then, compost the leaves.
  3. You can clean out the jar you were brewing it in, and pour your finished tincture in the same jar for storage. Store out of direct sunlight. LABEL your jar "Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) dried in 50% alc.", Pour some into a tincture bottle for ease of use. LABEL the little bottle if that*s what you use. You can also use any bottle or jar and administer with a teaspoon.
  4. That's all there is to it. Reach for your tincture when you need to in the middle of the night, or if you*re going through a particularly stressful time in your life, you may want to take a dropper full of tincture 3 or 4 times a day - at meal times and just before bed. It's a great idea to put it in a little warm water when you are taking it. However, some folks just put it directly in their mouths. The tincture will last for several years, so when the stress eases, simply tuck the bottle away in your medicine cabinet until you need to pull it out again. Skullcap tincture is not a remedy we use with our kids personally. A good calming remedy for kids is another lesson for another time.

Why the Law of Attraction does not work for many people and how to make it work for you? Why  so many people do not believe in the Law of Attraction? What would you like to come true, if you can wish all what your heart wants?

Desires deviations consequences
Have you thought about how it would change your life if you are materializing everything you want? It sounds tempting, but you should consider the consequences of deviations and possible results when using the Law of Attraction. We've all heard the saying, "Be careful what you wish for because it might come true!" This saying can be explained by the thought of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To every thing you gain, you lose something else!" For example, imagine that you have the opportunity to enter the fifth dimension, but do not know who can follow you, such as friends, family, loved one, kids. If you need to make this decision right now, what would you choose? For everything you gain, you lose something else. If you decide to enter the fifth dimension it is likely some of your loved ones do not follow you. As Jim Carrey once said: "I hope everyone can become rich and famous and have everything they ever dreamed. So people will understand that this is not the best thing that can happen to them."

Do what you wantThe Law of Attraction
The answer, as always, lies within you and you have to accept the consequences related to your decisions. Unfortunately, we focus on things we want, without realizing that it will change forever.
Aleister Crowley's famous words: "Do what thou would'st." In other words, our real will to express what we want the most, whether it is good or bad. Many of our thoughts are subconscious and appear unconsciously.

Why The Law of Attraction does not work for most people?
Even if you use mantras and convince internally something to yourself what will emerge eventually is your true beliefs. For example, if you hope to attract wealth and abundance, but your subconscious continues to focus on the things that you miss, you will not attract wealth, and even things that you miss. In this case you do not get what you want, but rather continue to burden your subconscious mind with things that do not pay adequate attention. This is the main reason why the Law of Attraction does not work for most of people.

How to make so that The Law of Attraction to work for you?
The Law of Attraction

Thanks to the mainstream media, advertising and the stress of everyday life, our minds are set to live in fear or lack of abundance. These thoughts and feelings are often hidden in our subconscious, which further increases fears or lack of abundance. The key to overcoming this situation is to set up and firmly believe permanent positive beliefs. Above all, you must stop the spread and limit the influence of fears and doubts that we are currently experiencing. For most people this is a very difficult task. Requires very strong consciousness to cope with any challenge. An easy way to use your conscience is like saving them on a sheet every day 10 times. Saying it out loud and strong, it also helps. The most important thing is to believe in anything you want to be true. You can go one more step forward by making positive beliefs about the planet. For example: "We all live in abundance, prosperity and good health". There are no restrictions on what you want to be true, so help the world become a better home for all of us.

Forget about excuses
It is easiest to say: "The law of attraction does not work", but in the world there are thousands and thousands of people who can testify that the Law of Attraction really works. Consciousness and your thoughts are more powerful than you imagine. It is therefore extremely important to connect with as much as possible like-minded people and to abstain from watching TV.

How to live The Law of Attraction

Believe in yourself and begin to come true desires of you life!
