Canniboid

Formula: C21H30O2: Molecular Mass: 314.2246 g/mol De-carboxylation Point: 115-145*C (239*F to 293*F) Boiling Point: 180*C (356*F) LD50 (Lethal Dose): 50mg/kg for mice (Compare to Nicotine: for rats * 50 mg/kg, for humans * 0.5-1 mg/kg)

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most common non-psychoactive cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, occurring in the largest concentrations after THC and THCa.  The reason THC is psychoactive is because it interacts with the CB1 receptor.  CBD, on the other hand, has no interaction with the CB1 receptor and instead uses a bunch of other receptor sites.  In a interesting reversal of CBD*s ability to calm THC psychoactivity, there is a way to transform CBD into THC.  It appears that CBD is like THC in that it will breakdown into the heavily sedating CBN.

Aside from being non-psychoactive, CBD is a powerful treatment for seizures, pain, inflammation, cancer, auto immune diseases, and numerous other conditions.  While THC is also an analgesic and anti-inflammatory, CBD has been shown to even more potent than THC and pharmaceutical drugs.  While THC and CBD both cause the user to feel less pain they use entirely different mechanisms of action.  THC helps with pain by helping one forget they are in pain, or by distracting them from your pain.  CBD works to reduce the amount of pain felt whenever you are hurt, more similar to traditional opiate pain killers.

Due to the fact that it is non-psychoactive and has a wide range of medical uses, CBD is highly recommended for treatment of children, the elderly, and anyone who wants to remain clear headed while still getting the medical benefits of cannabis.  CBD appears to change how THC affects the body, making it less psychoactive yet preserving the therapeutic benefits.  Many people who are new to cannabis edibles report getting too high and having negative experiences, if this ever happens to you, use a CBD rich tincture to calm down the psychoactive effects of THC and help you sober up.

The vast medical benefits coupled with the lack of psycho activity have prompted over a dozen states to pass CBD only medical cannabis laws, legalizing a part of the plant while keeping the whole plant illegal.  This does a disservice to patients because even patient who need a CBD rich regimen of medicine often need THC, THCa, or CBG; pediatric epilepsy patients use very high ratios of CBD:THC, in the range of 28:1, yet they still need THC at times and can see benefits from using THCa and CBG.  Combining different cannabinoids together has been shown to have a strong ereffect than any of those cannabinoids would have had on their own, this effect has been called the

Entourage Effect.  Many companies are attempting to cash in on the CBD Green Rush and have put numerous inferior product son the market for inflated prices, Project CBD has called these Snake Oil Salesmen *Hemp Oil Hustlers.* The problem has become so bad that in February of 2015, the FDA sent warning letters to numerous companies informing them that their CBD products did not test as high as they claimed and that they are not FDA approved.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the major cannabinoids found in cannabis. Studies have shown it safely and effectively provides a plethora of therapeutic benefits.
Overview of CBD

While cannabis* tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the cannabinoid that gets most of the attention, the relatively recent monumental findings on the therapeutic benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) are finally giving the non-psychoactive compound its due shine. CBD levels vary among different strains of marijuana plants, but breeders are able to create varieties with high levels of CBD.

Findings: Effects of Cannabis on Effects of CBD
Studies have shown that CBD safely and effectively reduces nausea and vomiting, suppresses seizure activity, combats psychosis disorders, contests inflammatory disorders, counters neurodegenerative disorders, fights tumor and cancer cells, and battles anxiety and depression disorders (Fernandez-Ruiz, et al., 2013). Because of these notable effects, CBD shows exciting potential as a treatment option for neuroinflammation disorders, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, and anxiety and schizophrenia (Fernandez-Ruiz, et al., 2013).

Alzheimer*s Disease
CBD limits the progression of Alzheimer*s disease by blocking microglial activation and thus providing neuroprotection
(Martin-Moreno, et al., 2011) (Ramirez, et al., 2005) (Campbell & Gowran, 2007). The combination of neuroprotective,
anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic effects provided by CBD decreases the oxidative stress associated with Alzheimer*s disease. (Iuvone, et al., 2004).

Amytotraphic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
CBD can significantly slow the onset of ALS (Weydt, et al., 2005). In addition, it can help reduce the pain, appetite loss, depression, sleeping problems, spasticity and drooling that can are commonly associated with ALS (Amtmann, et al., 2004) (Carter, Abood, Aggarwal & Weiss
,
2010Anxiety Disorder

CBD has effects on the limbic and paralimbic areas of the brain to reduce anxiety and has demonstrated the ability to significantly decrease subjective anxiety (Crippa, et al., 2011). It*s also been shown to significantly reduce the anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort associated with public speaking in individuals with Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) (Bergamaschi, et al., 2011)
.

Arthritis
With its anti-inflammatory benefits and potent anti-arthritic effects that protect joints, CBD limits the progression of arthritis (Malfait, et al., 2000).

Bone Health
CBD enhances the maturation of collagen, the protein in the bone*s connective tissue that holds the bone together, which in turn significantly improves the strength and the healing process of bones (Kogan, et al., 2015).

Cancer
CBD inhibits the progression of cancers located in the breast, lung, prostate and colon in animal models, which suggests that it could also be effective at mediating cancer cell death in human subjects (McAllister, Soroceanu & Desprez, 2015) (Orellana-Serradell, et al., 2015) (Ligresti, et al., 2006). It*s been shown to inhibit human breast cancer cell proliferation and invasion, and decrease the gene expression in breast cancer cells, thus lowering tumor aggressiveness and significantly reducing its size (McAllister, et al., 2007). CBD acid (CBDA) has shown the capability of down-regulating invasive human brain cancer cells and therefore preventing their growth (Takeda, et al., 2014) (McAllister, et al., 2011).

Cardiovascular Disease
CBD reduces myocardial dysfunction, cardiac fibrosis, oxidative-nitrative stress, inflammation, cell death, and interrelated signaling pathways, which collectively offers therapeutic benefits in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases (Rajesh, et al., 2010). In addition, administering CBD shortly after a heart attack has been shown to reduce infarct size and myocardial inflammation, thus showing potential as a treatment for myocardial ischemia (Durst, et al., (2007).-, 2015).

Leukemia
CBD helps prevent complications that can occur after a leukemia patient receives a stem cell or bone marrow transplant (Yeshurun, et al., 2015). In addition, it has been found to help cancer patients manage the nausea, vomiting and pain associated with traditional cancer treatments and to stimulate appetite (Guzman, 2003).

Migraines
CBD is effective at reducing pain associated with a wide variety of conditions, including headache and migraines (Baron, 2015).

Multiple Sclerosis
CBD combats the inflammation associated with multiple sclerosis, therefore providing neuroprotection and limiting the disease*s progression (Kozela, et al, 2011) (Mecha, et al., 2013). CBD effectively reduces the spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis (Collin, et al., 2010). In addition, it has demonstrated the ability to reduce the neuropathic pain associated with multiple sclerosis (Barnes, 2006).

Nausea
Studies have found that cannabinoids, including CBD contained in cannabis, are effective at treating the more difficult to control symptoms of nausea, as well as preventing anticipatory nausea in chemotherapy patients (Parker, Rock & Limbeer, 2011).

Obesity
CBD has been shown to cause a significant decrease in body weight gain and reduce lipid levels (Ignatowska-Jankowska, Jankowski & Swiergiel, 2011) (Silvestri, et al., 2015).

Pain
CBD has been shown effective at lowering pain levels associated with a wide variety of conditions, including spasticity, headache, migraines, and other acute pain and chronic pain conditions (Jensen, Chen, Furnish & Wallace, 2015) (Baron, 2015).

Parkinson's Disease
CBD has neuroprotective properties and supports the health of neural cells mitochondria, thus helping to prevent neurodegeneration (da Silva, et al., 2014) (Zuardi, 2008). (Fernandez-Ruiz, et al., 2013). Significant improvements in well being and quality of life scores were found in Parkinson*s disease patients undergoing CBD treatment (Chagas, et al., 2014). CBD may help with those Parkinson*s* disease patients experiencing psychosis (Zuardi, et al., 2009).

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
CBD*s interaction with the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) of the endocannabinoid system modulates the release of neurotransmitter that increases a sense of pleasure and initiates alternation of memory processes (Betthauser, Piilz, Vollmer, 2015). CBD can also block the continuous retrieval of the traumatic event, thus enhancing its extension and reducing its associated anxiety (Akirav, 2013) (Trezza & Campolongo, 2013) (Passie, et al., 2012).

Schizophrenia
CBD has anxiolytic and antipsychotic properties. Schizophrenia patients treated with CBD in trials have shown that CBD is a safe and well-tolerated alternative treatment for schizophrenia (Zuardi, et al., 2006) (Leweke, et al., 2012).

Sickle Cell Anemia
Cannabinoids have shown to be effective at helping curtail the severe pain associated with sickle cell disease (Kohli, et al., 2010) (Howard, et al., 2005).

Spinal Cord Disease
CBD improves bladder control, muscle spasms and spasticity in patients with spinal cord diseases and damage (Wade, et al, 2003).

Spinal Cord Injuries

When administered shortly after a spinal cord injury, CBD stimulates a neuroprotective response to limit damage (Arevalo-Martin, et al., 2012). CBD has shown to improve motor scores following a spinal cord injury (Kwiatkoski, et al, 2012).

Stroke
A
dministering CBD shortly after a stroke protects neurons and astrocytes from damage, and therefore leads to improved functional, histological, biochemical, and neurobehavior recovery (Lafuente, et al., 2011).

Traumatic Brain Injury
CBD has shown to provide a neuroprotective effect and limit brain damage following a traumatic brain injury (Castillo, et al., 2010) (Mechoulam & Shohami, 2007) (Pazos, et al., 2013).

Benefits title. title
Many seniors are not aware of how medical cannabis could improve their quality of life and how the stereotypical marijuana user and use has changed.  Because CBD is extracted from the marijuana plant, seniors can take advantage of the medical benefits afforded by the extract without the head or body sensation often associated with marijuana.  Additionally, seniors have the option of delivering CBD to their bodies in forms more familiar, rather than inhaling smoke.  CBD is an oil extract and therefore can be added to things like topical gels, tinctures and edible products.

In many cases, these derivatives of cannabis can reduce or even replace the use of harmful and addictive prescription drugs.  While this information is only now making its way into the mainstream, the natural consequence is,seniors drop their prejudices, face the reality and turn to the treatment of their minor and major age-related diseases using cannabis.
Here are 8 reasons why CBD should become a regular part of every seniors* health routine as they age.

Pain Relief It has long been known that cannabis is a pain reliever to the same extent as, perhaps even better, prescription medication.  For instance, clinical studies have proved that Marijuana is very effective in decreasing arthritis and nerve pain.  Handmade, medical, boutique-style creams are the effective cure of different muscles and joint pains.

Bone Health Cannabis could provide a great need for the elderly as it relates to bone fragility.  According to a study, cannabis use can help heal fractures and support healthier bones.  Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, cannabis can be very useful for patients with multiple sclerosis.
Soothing Effects Although CBD is known for its soothing effects on senior consumers, it promotes the feeling of energy and acts again stinertia.  This is because CBD strengthens cells in the human body and contributes to complete regeneration.

In addition, CBD is an antioxidant that promotes the sense of vigilance that can be disturbed by the presence of free radicals.  A study shows that cannabidiol has stronger antioxidant properties than Vitamin C and Vitamin E.
Fights Glaucoma There has been growing research that supports a link between cannabis and the treatment of glaucoma.  Glaucoma, which isa neur-degenerative disease (the breakdown of neurons in the communication process from the brain to the body), affects the sight of individuals from an increase in pressure in the eye known as interaocular pressure (IoP).  Going back decades, there is supporting evidence that cannabinoids can reduce IoP by up to 25%, however the required dosage of inhalation of full THC cannabis has posed a risk to some patients.  However, due to the accompanying symptoms of glaucoma, CBD as a pain management product works well, and may have the added benefit of helping reduce pressure.

Insomnia and Sleep Issues

The older we get, the more difficult it is to achieve sustained periods of deep sleep.  During the deep sleep phases, our brain regenerates and is freed from toxic substances, which were produced by the body itself.  Therefore, sleep quality is also of immense importance to prevent age-related neuro degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or glaucoma.  Frequently, elderly people are prescribed sleeping pills, which have a great potential for dependency and a wide range of unpleasant side effects.  CBD can help in the extension of the deep sleep phase and the reduction of the lighter sleeping phases.
Alternative to Prescription Medications The number of seniors who use daily prescription drugs grows each year unnecessarily and continuously.  Pharmaceutical companies present our government with one of the largest lobbying groups in the country, to promote the effectiveness and stability provided by their products. However, prescription drugs can be extremely dangerous for its users, and can be responsible for organ damage, tissue damage, drug addiction and even death.

In comparison, marijuana is a safe alternative to prescription drugs, coming with fewer side effects and lower addictive traits.  This benefit is heightened with CBD and in fact has been used to combat addiction to prescription drugs.  Neither deaths nor overdoses have been documented, which are related to marijuana.
Stimulates Appetite A general, dangerous health hazard among older citizens is the loss of appetite, which causes weight loss, tissue weakness, and mental issues.

While marijuana has been extensively researched, and shown to improve the appetite of users, CBD likewise has proven to be a good appetite stimulant and thus helpful for seniors

Alzheimer's and Dementia

An emerging trend that is being researched is could marijuana prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease.  According to multiple studies, cannabinoids, and by extension CBD, can contribute to the elimination of a toxic protein related to this disease.  This is triggered by a loss of inflammation of the brain and regeneration of damaged cells.
While the potential benefits of CBD use are well documented, it is recommended that you always consult your physician regarding the use of any substance.  And, further be aware that the use and possession of marijuana or CBD is illegal in several states.  For a comprehensive list of states in which marijuana is and is not legal click here.

What is CBD?

CBD is shorthand for cannabidiol, one of more than one hundred cannabinoids present in cannabis, and 'industrial' hemp, grown for hempseed, hempseed oil, and fiber. The amounts of certain cannabinoids, along with other constituents such as terpenes, ketones, and aldehydes, to name a few (found in hemp essential oil) account for the wide variety of effects of various cannabis strains.

Hemp, which is legal in all 50 states, contains a relatively high concentration of CBD, and only trace amounts of other cannabinoids such as THC, CBN, etc. This allows for the CO2-extraction of CBD, and the formulation of CBD-containing blends used via oral ingestion.

CBD has none of the effects commonly associated with 'pot'. It doesn't get one 'high', though it has been researched for many potential health benefits. Researchers have found it to have potent anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and neuro-protective actions. The list of conditions CBD has been shown to positively benefit is long, and further information can be found throughout the Internet.

Our CBD oil formulas contain 1mg of CBD per each two drops. The ideal serving size for different users and circumstances is not exactly known. One study seems to indicate that a 2mg serving of CBD produced similar effects of a 200mg serving. We encourage individuals to experiment with their intake to find what is suitable for them.

How Does CBD Work?

Our bodies have their own endogenous cannabinoids and receptors. While the actual mechanisms of action of CBD are not yet completely understood. It appears that, while CBD does not bind to these receptors, it may prevent the breakdown of our own endogenous cannabinoids, thereby enhancing their activity.

Cannabidiol Basics tital

Where Does CBD Come From?

Hemp-plant CBD is extracted and separated from specific varieties of cannabis, often known as hemp.  Chemically, CBD is one of 85 chemical substances known as cannabinoids, which are all found in the cannabis plant.  CBD is the second most abundant compound in hemp, typically representing upto 40% of its extracts. However, here is where the confusion starts.

Unfortunately, the most abundant constituent of cannabis is the cannabinoid known as THC, an intoxicating and illegal substance that is responsible for causing marijuana users to get "high." While CBD is completely separated and isolated from THC and CBD cannot get you"*high," there is still a lot of stigma as many people tend to mistake CBD for THC.

These fears, though unfounded, are understandable to an extent, especially since the terminology surrounding CBD can be very confusing.

Nonetheless, it is impossible to get "high" by smoking or ingesting CBD- high hemp (that has only traces of THC), as it is also impossible to get high by consuming CBD oil products (that contain virtually no THC).
CBD is extracted in oil form and is often found mixed in hemp oil extracts in varying concentrations.

Is Cannabidiol Legal?
Yes, CBD is legal worldwide (a controlled substance in Canada alone).  As we*ve seen above, there is a lot of misinformation surrounding CBD, partially because its chemical properties are poorly understood and partially because of its close resemblance to THC.

Until relatively recently (1980s), scientists believed that CBD was a natural precursor to the formation of THC, and since THC was a strictly controlled substance back then (it still is), it only followed that CBD should be equally strictly regulated.
However, CBD is actually unrelated to the chemical chain that results in THC.  They share some characteristics but are created via different paths.  Again, unlike THC, CBD is considered a legal cannabinoid and is safe to consume in any amount and concentration.

Cannabidiol Definitions
We understand that there are some confusing terms related to Cannabidiol, so we wanted to take the time to explain them to you.  Below is a list of the most important terms to understand related to Cannabidiol Cannabis * A type of flowering plant that includes three distinct variations: Cannabis ruderalis, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis sativa.  Cannabis has a wide range of industrial and medical applications.  It has been used since antiquity for its sturdy fiber, for oils, and for medicinal purposes.  However, it has also been used as a recreational drug, a fact that renders the cultivation of cannabis strictly regulated because of some variations including high concentrations of THC.

Hemp :  Hemp refers to the high-growing varieties of cannabis that are grown to be specifically used for fiber, oil, and seeds.  These are then refined into numerous products including wax, resin, cloth, pulp, paper, rope, fuel, and hemp oil.

Cannabinoids -A very diverse chemical family that includes natural as well as artificially created substances.  Different cannabinoids have widely varied effects, with some cannabinoids proven to have soothing and relaxing properties and others classified as illegal drugs.

CBD- A naturally occurring cannabinoid, and the second most abundant constituent of the Cannabis plant.  CBD is legal and safe to consume, yet has long been in the shadow of THC.

THC - The most abundant constituent of the cannabis plant and a strongly psychoactive cannabinoid, THC is responsible for getting *high* from smoking marijuana and, as a result, its production and usage are strictly regulated.

Psychoactive - Any chemical substance that can enter the brain from the bloodstream and directly affect the central nervous system is considered psychoactive.  Many psychoactive substances have medical applications (such as anesthetics, psychiatric drugs, etc.), but some of these substances are used solely for recreation, causing dangerous side effects and addiction.

Intoxicating - Any substance that can cause you to lose control of your faculties and alter your behavior is considered intoxicating.  Almost all illegal drugs have intoxicating properties, although worldwide most intoxication cases are attributed to alcohol.  Intoxication can be caused by substances that directly affect the brain (i.e., psychoactive) or by indirectly causing damage to your organism (i.e., through toxicity, hence the term).

Closing Words / What Makes CBD Different

In today's world, there are countless supplements on the market.  Yet, even as a newly popularized supplement, CBD stands out as a naturally calming and soothing.  In addition, scientists are staying open to the possibility of wider applications of CBD in the near future.
For many people, CBD products are becoming a relaxing addition to their daily lives.  However, since each person*s needs are different, we always encourage you to do your own research to see if CBD oil is right for you.

As we strive to be the most consumer-focused provider of CBD oil in the market, we will be creating more articles to point out the most recent CBD research and all related scientific breakthroughs.

Our aim is to provide a balanced and accurate view of everything and anything related to the use of CBD, so stay tuned for more objective information about CBD and always be prepared for some critical thinking and research of your own as well.
