March editor Letter
Greetings,

Here we are already in March, and I was already surprised by the fact we were in February! Phew!!!

With that said, we have some exciting news to bring to you.  Coming soon we will have avail- able online as well as in the store "Astro Health Profile"
We are all very concerned with the fact that we have to watch our weight.

Now I am going to offer you
a consult with your very own Astrological chart as well as the diet that you should be following based on the time you were born.

I find it exciting to think that we could eat according to our make-up or linage if you will,  based on the signs we were born under.

We are launching this month! You will find it under "Astrology" on the website

We have an exciting month coming up, with Spring breaks being in full swing soon, as well as the weather warming up.

We have decided to feature Lemon Balm, which is an awesome herb especially this time of year, with the change in weather causing undo stress with allergies as well as colds and sinus infections.

We wish you a wonderful month of March, and look forward to you coming in for you natural needs.

Sincerely,

Caerlion, The Editor

Herb of the month lemon Balm
lemon balm
Also known as Melissa officinalis, melissa, balm.*

Introduction
Lemon balm is a mint with a distinctly lemony scent.  Its botanical name Melissa is taken from the Greek word for bee, indicative of the plant's attractive power for bees and useful insects of all kinds.  The term "balm" refers to balsam, the ancient world's most important sweet-smelling oils.  For thousands of years herbalists used lemon balm to treat any kind of disorder of the central nervous system.  The London Dispensary (1696) says: "An essence of Balm, given in Canary wine, every morning will renew youth, strengthen the brain, relieve languishing nature and prevent baldness." John Evelyn wrote: "Balm is sovereign for the brain, strengthening the memory and powerfully chasing away melancholy." Alcoholic tinctures of lemon balm were combined with lemon peel, angelica root, and nutmeg to make Carmelite water, a nineteenth-century tonic for migraine headache and neuralgia.

Constituents Very small amounts of essential oil.  The oil content of the leaf can be 2-3 times higher if the plant is grown under conditions of drought and heat.

Parts Used The leaf, dried and cut.

Typical Preparations
Taken as a tea and added to skin ointments.  Often combined with valerian when used as an aid for sleep.  May also be administered as either an extract or capsule.

Summary
Lemon balm is useful for treating nervous disturbances of sleep and chronic gastrointestinal disorders, but its primary use today is in treating viral infections of the skin, especially herpes, both genital herpes and cold sores.  Although it does not eliminate flare-ups, it relieves itching in hours and helps the lesions heal over in a few days.  One scientifically controlled study followed 66 individuals who were just starting to develop a cold sore (oral herpes).  Treatment with lemon balm cream produced significant benefits on the second day of the outbreak (usually the day symptoms are worst), reducing intensity of discomfort, number of blisters, and the size of the lesion.

Precautions
Make sure the product you are using is lemon balm, and not the less expensive citronella.

Delicious and sweet, lemon balm infused into honey makes a great treat to stir into teas or simply take by the spoonful.

This treat can soothe a sore throat, have a gentle calming effect, or help a tummy ache.

Ingredients

  • A small handful of
  • fresh lemon balm leaves,
  • Local organic raw honey,
  • A small jar.

Instructions
  1. To begin, chop up the fresh lemon balm into small pieces and place them in a jar. Ideally they will fill the jar while loosely packed.
  2. Next, fill this jar with honey. You may need to slightly warm the honey to a more syrupy consistency in order to get it to mix well.
  3. Now you*ll stir the leaves and honey together. I often use a chopstick for this, but any instrument you have will do.
  4. Let this sit on the counter for 2 - 3 days. You'll notice that it has a thinner consistency now that the honey has pulled some of the water content from the leaves. If you think this will last longer than a week, you might want to store it in the fridge to avoid possible fermentation

These are cooling, refreshing and delicious. Perfect for a hot summer day!

Ingriedients

  1. 2 loosely packed cups of
chopped fresh lemon balm leaves  OR
  2. 4 Tablespoons of dried lemon balm leaves,
  3. Hot water,
  4. Honey,
  5. Half gallon jar (or other container),
  6. Popsicle molds.
Lemon Balm Iced Tea

,

  2. Fill this with just-boiled water and let steep for 20 minutes.
  3. Strain off the leaves and add honey to taste.
  4. For immediate use you can add lots of ice cubes until it cools. If you choose this option you may want to start with slightly more lemon balm leaves since the end product will be diluted, Or you can store it in your fridge/freezer to cool and be enjoyed later.

Spirituality can be a complicated business.  In my workshops I like to remind people that their intention can be strong because of your  need to fight adversity and oppression. While the evil institutions of slavery and colonialism are a thing of the past, there are still new dangers and challenges that we must face everyday in the modern world. This list will help you be prepared for most things that come your way.
.
  • Florida Water:  Florida Water is used for just about everything in the religions.   This little bit of heaven in a bottle smells divine, and can be added to all types of rituals and spells.
  • Red Brick Dust:  Red brick dust, preferably made from old bricks, serves to create a protective barrier between you and the outside world. In my post about Black Salt, White Salt, and Red Brick Dust All Over, I talk about how the best results from this can be obtained by laying a complete line across all your thresholds and windowsills on the eve of the full moon.
  • Black Salt:  Black salt can be used like Sea salt and spread around the home, or simply carried in your pocket.
  • Sea Salt:  This salt, a common kitchen witch standby, can protect and cleanse almost everything in your home. Try using it to cleanse your tarot cards or crystals.
  • Hi John Root: Also known as Johnny Conquer root, High John is one of the most powerful and popular items. It works in spells of justice and power.
  • Rose of Jericho:  This miraculous plant is used for healing in all areas, mind, body, soul, home, finances, etc. For a long time this plant was only available
  • Grains of Paradise:  Like all good magickal spices Grains of Paradise can be used for blessing and removal of curses and hexes.
  • May Rain Water:  Rain water collected during the month of May serves to bring great blessings and joy into your life. This water can be added to other magickal water formulas, or simply spread about the home to bring successful energy to your space and workings.
  • Graveyard dirt:  Graveyard dirt sounds like a spooky ingredient in a horror movie formula. In reality it can be used to strengthen your connection with the ancestors, and the dead, and also receive their protection.
  • Holy Water:  It is hard to say whether this ingredient found it*s way onto most peoples protective supply list by accidental necessity, or design. Holy water is very protective when sprinkled around your home, windowsills, doorways, and even on yourself. You can get it yourself from your local church or you can even order Holy

water is very protective when sprinkled around your home, window sills, doorways, and even on yourself. You can get it yourself from your local church or you can even order Holy Water online from the sacred site of Lourdes.

Other Items you can always have on hand:

  1. Altar Tools
  2. Even if you don't have a designated altar space, you still might want to start acquiring the right tools for your spells. You don't have to rush out and buy all these things, but these are the most traditional tools you'll find on an altar:
  3.  Athame - a double-edged knife that is used to cast a circle and direct energy during spells. It's NOT used for cutting. Stands for the element of fire or air, depending on your tradition.
  4.  Chalice - a cup or goblet that represents water, and can be used in spells that require you to have a drink.
  5.  Wand - usually made from a tree branch, its another tool used for directing energy, similar to an athame. A wand means either air or fire, opposite the athame.
  6.  Pentacle - the five-pointed star surrounded by a circle represents earth, and usually is in the form of a plaque or paten that sits on your altar. A good spot for cleansing or charging crystals or other items.

Those are the main 4 altar tools, but you can also have, candles, incense, crystals, bells, swords and statuary on your altar. Some items are usually just for looks and some are used regularly in spells.

Herbs
Herbs are one of those supplies that can be a bit overwhelming because there are so many of them, and spells can call for just about anything. You usually use dried herbs, though if you can get fresh ones that's even better. Many herbs commonly used in spellwork can be purchased at the grocery store or bulk food store. Oils and incense have similar properties as herbs, and can often be used to substitute for actual herbs.

Candles

An altar wouldn't be complete without candles. White candles can be substituted in just about any kind of spell (except for any witchcraft that requires a black candle). But you can give your spells some extra power if you have your candles in the right colour. Keep a selection of them on hand, just in case. They don't have to be large either. Lots of spells ask you to leave your candles until they burn down on their own. So a huge pillar candle will be a bit awkward to leave burning for 3 weeks straight.

Happy 2016 everyone! Its hard to believe that 2015 is over - frankly, I couldn’t wait until it was over.  There was difficulty, elation, fun and a lot of growth this last year.  There was, as most of you know, a health scare that could have made a huge impact on my life - but everything turned out for the best!  Because of the positive outcome of that situation, I have been going ahead with some fabulous plans for the future!  I can’t tell you how excited I am to continue my business into the 26th year; its been the best of all possible worlds, and I truly love what I do!

The five-month run for Jupiter Rising was truly an amazing experience!  I decided to suspend the show, because of the health scare.

It was a very stressful month awaiting the exam’s results, but I just had a meeting on December 15 with the station about doing my own show!

Tentatively, it is set for February 14, 2016 (Sunday) at 2:00pm in the afternoon! I will keep you informed and updated as we get closer to air-date.

The website -  www.jupiterrisingshow.comis still be up for the time being.  Any new announcements will be announced there too, and the archives of the show will remain, so that you can re-listen to any of the shows you choose!
