CBD is shorthand for cannabidiol, one of more than one hundred cannabinoids present in cannabis, and 'industrial' hemp, grown for hempseed, hempseed oil, and fiber. The amounts of certain cannabinoids, along with other constituents such as terpenes, ketones, and aldehydes, to name a few (found in hemp essential oil) account for the wide variety of effects of various cannabis strains.
Hemp, which is legal in all 50 states, contains a relatively high concentration of CBD, and only trace amounts of other cannabinoids such as THC, CBN, etc. This allows for the CO2-extraction of CBD, and the formulation of CBD-containing blends used via oral ingestion.
CBD has none of the effects commonly associated with 'pot'. It doesn't get one 'high', though it has been researched for many potential health benefits.
